Testing & Training
Once you apply....
You will have to create a profile to fill out a complete application. From there, we will review your qualifications, and if they meet our requirements, you will be invited to a testing session. Testing comprises the following:
- Written Exam
- Physical Exam
- Oral Board Panel
If you successfully pass and are a top candidate, you will be invited to fill out a background questionnaire for your Background Investigation and Polygraph exam. Â
If successful with the process, candidates are given a conditional offer or employment and begin Medical and Psychological screenings.
You Got The Job
Once you are hired, your training begins. You are earning a full salary from the first day and do not need to pay for any training or equipment out of your pocket. We will tailor a pre-academy training plan to assist you as you begin your journey. This training will be both academic and physical as we prepare you for the next step, and guide you towards success.Â
Police Academy
As a Newark Police officer, you’ll undergo some of the most elite training in law enforcement. The police academy is approximately 26 weeks long, and you will come out a fully trained officer ready for the next step.
Field Training
Once you successfully graduate your training academy, you will continue your training for approximately 12 weeks, where you are assigned to a Field Training, and learning on the job. Once this period is successfully completed, you will be assigned to the Patrol Division on a patrol shift.
